Lesson Plan 1
Begin teacher-led discussion of the historical framing of events. Hauser writes about "historicity," or the "sense of being a part of...history." One philosopher said that historicity is "constituted by a culture's stories" (190). Discuss these ideas and how they relate back to the Five Civilized Tribes.

5.SL 1.Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussion grade 5 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Activity:
Ensure understanding of topic by dividing into groups for discussion. Assign each group a tribe (if appropriate number of students) and have them discuss the experiences of that tribe. Then have each group present an overview of their discussion to the class.

Lesson Plan 2
Dr. Biljana Scott discusses framing in the form of typecasting a group as the "other" (3). Discuss with the students what effect this typecasting has on our history. What effect did this frame have during these events? How has that frame changed over time?
Objectives:
5.RI 6. Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.
5.W 2. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly
Activity:
Further understanding with short research project. Have students divide back in to their discussion groups. Each group will do a research project on their assigned tribe. Projects can be posters, dioramas, etc. Have each group present their project and explain its relation to the topic.
